Welcome to the Bangor University Translation Portal

We offer a written translation service from English into Welsh or from Welsh into English. You can send us any length of text, from a few words to a long document.

If you are using the service for the first time, please read the instructions below. Please get in touch if you experience any problems when using the service or if you need further clarification on any point.

Using the Service

Login using your username (all in lowercase and without @bangor.ac.uk) and your usual password.

To create a new project click “Create New Project” at the bottom of the screen on the left.

There is a short form to complete. All fields must be filled, especially the first two mandatory fields marked *.

You will be asked to create a name for your ‘project’. Choose a descriptive name, i.e. don’t choose “Work for Translation” as a name, but rather “E-mail to partners” for example.

The project may consist of one file or several files or a very short piece of text.

Click on the date field to select the ‘Desired return date’ from the calendar. Allow sufficient time for us to be able to schedule your work. If the date you select is too early, the Translation Unit will contact you to let you know by which date the work can be completed.

You must indicate whether the work is to be translated from Welsh > English or from English > Welsh.

Lastly, you will have to tick a box to confirm that the work for translation isn’t externally funded.

Click Next.

On the next page you will be asked to either upload a file/files or to type or paste a short piece of text into a box. The box is limited to 250 characters (around 50 words). If task is longer, it must be uploaded as a file.

Then click on the Send to the Translation Unit button.

Your personal records page will show work that you have sent to the Translation Unit in white.

When the Translation Unit has accepted your work and confirmed the return date the record will change to yellow. Please bear in mind that the date may have to be changed because of the unit’s workload.

When the work is completed, you will receive an e-mail informing you of this, and asking you to login to the translation portal to download your work. The record will have turned green. Click on the record to open it and you will see a link to the original document on the left and a link to the translated document on the right. Click on the link on the right to download the translation.
